Homeschooling in Ohio: About
Law & Process Troubleshooting: Educate Yourself Legislative DCFS People
Educate Yourself Teaching Civics? Homeschooling is Political New to Homeschooling in Ohio?

There is a need in Ohio for homeschoolers to come together to promote, protect and preserve the freedom to educate our children at home. This website sprang from the painful realization that there wasn't a non-denominational place in cyberspace that housed all-inclusive information regarding the rights of all Ohioans to homeschool their children. That was the intent of the information gathered at this website.

If the "agenda" for this website isn't clear, it is to present thoughtful information to educate homeschoolers on laws, legislation and issues that really are about homeschooling in the state of Ohio. There are splashes of National issues here and there, but these are the issues that seem to trickle down from a National level to effect homeschoolers in Ohio, with or without basis.

The hope for this website is that it becomes a cyber-face for an all inclusive, network of people who stand behind the idea of vigilance to true homeschooling issues and preservation of the basic human right to educate our own children in Ohio.

This website wouldn't have been possible without the wisdom, experience and energy of a supportive group of people motivated to build this site.

Below are the headers and content that we would like to see used in the future for this website.

A Word About E-schools in Ohio...
There are many styles and methods of homeschooling. If a family enrolls their child in any public education system—even an online one—they are not independent homeschoolers.
Any form of school at home that includes dependence on a public education system is not independent homeschooling, it is public school at home, or at-home public school.

Independent homeschooling means you are not dependent on the established public system of education. If you are an independent homeschooler, you have freed yourself from the power of the Public Education system.

The reason that it is essential to distinguish the difference between these kinds of education programs is because the rules and regulations that pertain to at-home public school programs are very different from the regulations that pertain to homeschoolers. It is possible that at-home public school programs may introduce unnecessary regulation for those who do not choose those programs. This website does not deal with laws, legislation, or issues that pertain to online public schooling in Ohio.

This website is dedicated and produced for Independent homeschoolers.

Families choosing eCOT are struggling for their place; neither fish nor fowl. The challenge for homeschoolers is to maintain their own educational freedoms and autonomy, to be careful about the blurring of the lines and distinctions, while supporting educational choice for other families.

Homeschoolers, Is Our Good Name For Sale?
by Larry and Susan Kaseman
"When we interact with public schools, we are drawn into their values, standards, mentality, assumptions, and approach to education. We increase the incentive and opportunities school officials have to question us and investigate our homeschools. For reasons such as these, the vast majority of homeschoolers choose to homeschool without being involved in public schools."
