How about to be aware of how desensitized we Americans have become to things that are about common sense.

Our newsletter this month is brief as we are very busy getting plans together for our upcoming school year. Most of what I have been planning surrounds the idea that many of the jobs and careers that the kids we are homeschooling will contemplate are jobs and careers that have not even been considered yet. How do we "teach to that"?

One thing I do know is that as a homeschooling parent, it is very important to teach about remaining human and remaining sensitive to the idea of what it means to be part of a civilization that makes sense and that is fair.

Did you know that as educators the top 10 jobs that will be in demand in 2010 did not exist in 2004.

As educators we are currently preparing students for jobs that don't yet exist using technologies that haven't yet been invented in order to solve problems we don't even know are problems yet.

Adding travel to your curriculum? For over 4 years our family has exchanged homes with other families through out our nation. It is actually hard for me to imagine traveling any other way. We've stayed in many places including a 1950's 2 bedroom/1bath home just 2 blocks to the beach with less than 900sf to "the castle" a 4 story home 5000+ sf with breathtaking views. No matter where we went we made memories that would last a life time.

H.E.L.M. Travel is organizing a pool of homeschooling families who are looking to enrich their children’s education through hands-on learning experiences. You and other homeschooling families will exchange their primary residence, a second/vacation home, maybe even a timeshare that isn’t being used OR you can choose to host a family in your home rather than exchanging during pre-designated dates.
